Mattress Maintenance Essentials to Extend the Longevity of Your Mattress

Getting a good night of sleep is so important for your productivity and well being. The fact is that you can only have a great sleep if you have a mattress that supports you adequately. For this, you will need to test out lots of mattresses before you make a purchase, but a lot also hinges on how you look after your mattress. Take the following steps and your mattress will be kept in great condition for a much longer period of time.

Change your sheets. Okay, you might think that the bed sheets are a layer of protection between you and your mattress, and that is the case, but anything that's on your sheets can also come into contact with your mattress. So not only is changing your sheets regularly a good idea for your own hygiene, but also for the health of your mattress. It's not just a matter of keeping your mattress clean but also looking after your health, because if you don't wash your sheets regularly, harmful bacteria could easily be transferred to your mattress—particularly bad news if you have allergies.

Invest in a steam clean. When you change your sheets, it's a very good idea to vacuum your mattress to remove the surface dirt, but what about the dirt and bacteria that gets embedded within the mattress material itself? For this, it's best to invest in professional mattress steam cleaning. With something like bleach, you can bleach the colour of mould and that fools people into thinking that the mattress is totally clean, but this is often not the case. A steam clean at a high temperature actually removes bacteria and mould so your mattress is left as good as new. Steam clean your mattress a few times a year, and you'll find that its longevity increases greatly.

Use a mattress protector. A mattress protector really does what it says on the tin, and if your mattress is protected, it is going to last for a longer amount of time. When it comes to this purchase, don't go for the cheapest option. It's a very good idea to seek out a mattress protector that is waterproof so that is safeguarded against any accidental spills. It will also help to create a barrier between your mattress and your sheets so that skin oils, dirt, bacteria, and food crumbs are less likely to embed themselves in your mattress.
